This time I'm sure of it
Maia smiled at me today, not just smiled and I happened to be there. It's probably happened before but never so definitively. And then she giggled. I was so happy in that moment.

When the first baby laughed for the first time...
...its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.
~J. M. Barrie
Maia has just recently started laughing. Her laughs are sporadic so it's thrilling to catch one, like an elusive unicorn. She loves her balloon that Auntie Sanya gave her; sometimes I clip it onto the extra fabric at the bottom of her onesie so she can play with it. Sorry for the heartbeat and white noise sound, I didn't know I still had the white noise turned on that we use when we sleep.

Sad momma
I just had the genuinely heartbreaking experience of packing away clothes that Maia has already GROWN OUT OF. This onesie was SWIMMING on her when we got home from the hospital; her legs would get all tangled up because there was too much room (sunglasses for scale of how tiny she was). I am truly, legitimately, furrealsies sad right now. The first of many "my baby's growing up too fast" moments.

Just born
Rene took this picture when she was only moments old and they placed her on my chest. It was surreal, she is definitely her own person, it felt like meeting someone I'd never met before, even though we spent 9 months together.
